As summer finally comes to a close and the normal work patterns have firmly set back in it’s easy to let the fast pace of work schedules push your fitness to the side. We like to think of this time as a great opportunity to hit the ‘reset’ button and put some serious focus on yourself and your health between now and the end of 2024.
With some solid planning and a good old routine reset you can come into the festive season feeling your best.
Plan: Set yourself up for success.
After slowing things down a little over the summer and now trying to readjust to the ‘back to work/back to school’ routines it’s going to take some planning to get yourself back into a good flow and winning over the coming weeks.
We talk about being organised and planning your sessions intentionally - without it, you’ll simply only get so far! Creating a weekly schedule (it might look different week upon week and that’s ok) means you can allow yourself time to tick the fitness box. Diarise non-negotiable time for workouts in your calendar and make it a priority.
What are your goals until the end of the year and what do you need to get there?
How many sessions a week are you ticking off?
Are you allowing some time to hit your steps?
Have you enough time in the diary to grab some lunch?
If it’s not accounted for chances are you’ll have much less success in getting it done!
Transition: Ease yourself back in sensibly
If you’ve been away for the summer or you’ve eased back on the activity then allow yourself time to build yourself back in. Jumping straight back in at the deep end isn’t always what you need. Set small targets and aim to increase your output gradually over 4-6 weeks. Going too hard too soon can leave you feeling overwhelmed and at greater risk of injury so dial it back in and take it steady!
Find yourself a workout buddy or set yourself a challenge if you’re someone who needs that extra little push. It could be a household target or challenge which brings a partner or kids on board too!
Whilst the transition back to ‘normal’ after the summer accompanied by the darker days can sometimes feel overwhelming, carving out non-negotiable time for exercise can help you transition smoothly back into a consistent routine. Be intentional and use this opportunity to come into the winter months winning.
